How To Choose a Megaphone
Range is dependant on the SPL (Sound Pressure Level) the megaphone produces compared with the background noise level where it is to be used. In noisy environments, a much more powerful megaphone is required. A 10 watt megaphone is not necessarily LOUDER than a 6 watt megaphone. Compare units by their stated "maximum SPL". [When comparing with other suppliers, if the maximum SPL is not shown, it's probably not very loud]

Technical Terms for Megaphones
Power output or rated power can be stated in many different ways, and as such does not necessarily indicate how loud or effective the unit will be, which can be confusing when attempting to compare models.
Maximum SPL (Sound Pressure Level) indicates how loud the megaphone is, and this will directly affect the effective range in a given environment.
As a guide, an extra 10dB sounds about TWICE as loud and about an extra 6dB is required to double the effective range in a given environment.
